Yay for Macbooks!

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

I may be $1700 poorer, but I am one Macbook richer and I'm super excited about it. I honestly am afraid to move it from it's current location of the dining room table for fear it might get anything on it! Wow, I'm a nerd! haha I'm thinking about one of those thin plastic covers that you can put designs on. Over at Unique Design you can add your own pictures or use theirs. Anyone that knows me, will probably guess I want to leopard print one!

Do you have a cover on yours? Any suggestions??

Remember Myspace? I still really like it for many reasons. It's a lot different than Facebook which is way too personal--you need to know people to add them (or else it's 'creepy') and it requires way too much information. Myspace is all about adding random people, looking for new music, reading up on people's latest projects...

I think my favourite part is the blogs. Many celebrities use them to update the masses:

Since I just saw him-- Jack Johnson ... any chance to listen to him sing is good enough for me. Plus he has links to all the other artists on Brushfire Records!

Check out DJ AM ...he posts new music all the time!

Even Tom Hanks has one (which you can check here) where he enlightening you on his summer readings...

Chances are your favorite artist, actor, activists, political etc. has one! So in the height of Facebook, don't forgot about the wonders of Myspace.

Good Reason...

I've been neglecting posts for the last few days due to a death in the family. The funeral is on Monday and I will be taking this weekend to prepare for the funeral.

Promise more next week!

If you read this a while ago, you probably saw my post about the Journal Club. If not, the Nephrology Journal Club is a great excuse to go to fancy restaurants (all different ones around thec city) and eat copious amounts of food that someone making as little pay as I do, can not afford (and you listen to a few talks-- minor details). Delicious, amazing, FREE food. SOLD.

Tonight's dinner was at Crave an "upscale, urban dining environment" in the North part of town. The picture above is where we were seated for the night. There were about 40 of us there and we listened to a talk about Phosphate binders & calcium (yeah, I was a little lost on this topic, too!) and then enjoyed the meal. I had crab cakes, a fish dinner and chocolate brownie with chocolate and peanut butter gelato along with one OJ, one coke, one Shirley Temple and one water. I estimate my meal was about $70 all in all. Insane, but sooo worth it (as long as I wasn't paying!)

The conversation with a few of the med students totally made the night. Unlike everyone else, we were more than happy to talk about the most random of things and spent the entire night laughing! Free food with fun people--- When's the next one??

Sleep Through the Static

Monday, August 4, 2008

I think I am in heaven!!!! I am about 90% recovered from the Jack Johnson show (we didn't leave the venue until about 1:30am, and hit Pickering at 4:30am... totally worth it all-- but I am still so tired as my sleep count is about at 4 hours today)

Anyway, the show was amazing! We arrive just before 4 at Burl's Creek (the venue) and got into a huge convoy of cars heading to the parking lot. Within 30 mins we were parked and ready to get in. After weaving though the lines, we got in and set up camp. Literally. We had towels and blankets and were ready to sit in the hot sun for a few hours as we waited for the show to start. After a few bathroom breaks, re-filling water bottles, a little walking around and a lot of sitting in the sun, the first of 3 opening guys came on. Jack (as everyone called him) had three opening guys that were pretty good (they started at 6 and went to just before 9 with not too much wait time in between). It was 9pm before I even realized and to be honest, I can't even remember which song he opened with. All I can remember thinking is "OMFG, I am seeing JACK JOHNSON LIVE".Amazing. The crowd was loving it and he was loving us back. He played some oldies and lots of new songs off his latest album Sleep Through the Static. I made sure to get a bit of Sitting, Waiting, Wishing on video along with Banana Pancakes (one of my favourite songs of his-- and also my cell phone ring!) and a couple others that are escaping my mind right now! Lots of songs (nearly 2 hours) countless pictures and several videos later, Jack was done and we were herded (like sheep) back to the car. This part from the time the show ended took from about 11-2:00am. Try getting thousands of people out of ONE exit. FUN! We cranked the radio and belted songs to the cars around us with songs by Elton John and basically anything else that came on. I think only one guy really liked it, but whatever, they should be chill. THEY JUST CAME FROM SEEING JACK JOHNSON! We narrowly escaped a verbal fight (thanks Anna) and witnessed a great "it's 1:00am we we're still stuck in the same spot we've been in since 11am" verbal argument. It was great.

All and all an amazing show. I totally missed N not being there, but if Jack comes back to Toronto and I'm around-- we'll go, and I'll hold on to the ticket. :)

Sitting, Waiting, Wishing

I am literally sitting, waiting and wishing because this SUNDAY is Jack Johnson at Burl's Creek in Oro, Ontario! (Yeah, no one has ever heard of Oro, but I assure you it is a real place!) .. It's going to be great! *fingers crossed for good weather!* I'll let you know how it goes on Monday!
Are you seeing any bands this summer?
