Shopping, again.

Sunday, November 16, 2008

I think I have an addiction to shopping! This weekend was suppose to be full of cleaning and laundry and all those fun things I hate doing during the week but instead, I went out in the freeing snow-rain to go shopping! It was sooo chilly and I wore flats... foolish (but stylish!) and had my cute (but broken) leopard print umbrella in hand...

After 3 hours, I purchased a great coat for.... well, for no occasion really. It's not warm (it's actually quite deceivingly chilly), but it's super super cute with a great neckline that can fold up or down, fun buttons and a belt!! I couldn't pass it up. It's sad that the majority of my regrets in life are based on pieces I didn't buy!!

Secondly I picked up a great dress by ONLY called the "Mad Party Dress". It's got a sweetheart neckline with a zipper up the front in black almost sweatpant like material. Comfy and cute. I Love it.

It may not seem like a lot, but I neglected to write about the other stuff I bought last week! A cute black skirt, a few tops, summer dresses (I couldn't resist!)... opps!

I may be poor, but I'll be stylish!

Yours in super cute new clothes,

**pictures come soon!

I am a geek.

Have you seen this:

HALLOWE'EN!!!-- "u r lamerz like Paris Hilton"

Hallowe'en is nearly here and as per usual, I have no idea what I am going to be!!!

This might be my favourite so far on my search! --- nothing I would ever be, but hilarious!

The Big Bang Theory!

Thursday, October 9, 2008

Have you seen this show?? The Big Bang Theory is in it's second season-- geeks and nerds everywhere, rejoice!

Check out a clip below:

and if you want to see more, you can stream it HERE!

UPDATE: Although it may appear from the posted YouTube video that this show would fit nicely between Teen Angel and Sabrina the Teenage Witch on ABC's TGIF, is it, in fact, much more clever than the aforementioned ABC shows. Just to clarify.

Thursday, October 2, 2008

I can barely believe that it's a) October already and b) Homecoming! This year I have the luxury of knowing I DON'T HAVE TO WORK IT! As much fun as it is serving 4000 of my drunk classmates, I'd much rather be in the crowd!!

I am looking forward to seeing everyone again (and debuting my NEW PURSE!)

You've Got Mail!

Saturday, September 27, 2008

My friend J informed me that I have been slacking on SCandOPT and that I need to start posting again! She was totally right, and today is the perfect day to post again.

This is what you have been missing:

1. Homecoming is in one week! Where did September go? I think it was the beginning of summer, then I blinked and it's nearly October-- it's like a big blur of weekend (except I've been working during that time...)! Back to homecoming for one moment-- I'm super excited about the beer gardens and seeing loads of people I haven't seen for ages!! YAY!

2. The count down the Australia has begun-- I had the days, but I forget now! A few months anyway, but still exciting! and I have a few Oz vacation destinations to visit too! YAY!

3. I have met a great group of friends through a Uni friend. Last weekend was great, Fri was fun and Sat we went to see live music! (ohhh la la-- you best ask about this!) and we definitely need to go see them again!!! I miss weekends like that, makes me think of school and many nights at the Pig!

4. My Fashion Finds---

This weekend was AMAZING for great fashion finds. It started with finding a James Perse dress for $6-- and $84 dress for $6. Yes, please! Its super cute, summery, a slate/ greenish colour perfect for hot (Australia) summer days! annnd on top of that, it can be worn with boots for a more fall look! Love it!

Then, last weekend I tired on a super cute plain hoody in purple at the mall. It was $40. I should have bought it, but I didn't... then this weekend I went back and got it! The last one left. Ah ha. It was meant to be. Who doesn't love a new comfy hoody? (That was a silly question, EVERYONE loves a new comfy hoody!!)

THEN I found a FENDI bag. It was unmarked (price wise) but I couldn't stop looking at it. I found this consignment shop just outside of town (its the kind of shop where people who can afford fendi bags drop off stuff) Who doesn't love that? Anyway, the bag needs a little love (nothing a little buffing couldn't get rid of) and it's perfect. Tons of room, the Fendi "F's". Real. SOLD! Ahhh... my first real Fendi (breathe, must breathe)

5. I managed to watch You've Got Mail twice! I love that movie for several reasons, including but not limited to: it's divine location of Manhattan, my love of books and jealously of the Little Shop Around the Corner, the love connection strengthened though AOL mail, the old school Macbook, the fact my computer has never once told me "You've Got Mail"... oh the list goes on and on... it's just so cute. It's like the warm feeling that the movie Love Actually gives you... ahhh....

So all in all a good past few weeks!! --- Have you been up to anything fun lately???

I need an internship!

Wednesday, September 17, 2008

I've been thinking lately that I really need some kind of internship that will give me insight into potential careers. You may know I am heading to Australia soon for teachers college, but I think I want more/ I'm not sold on the teaching thing...

I'm thinking more PR, special events stuff; creative-- a non 9-5 job!!!

So here's my question(s) to you:

Have you done an internship? Know any potential places for me to look into?

Where in the world is...

Sunday, September 14, 2008

Carmen San Diego!

I added a new widget to the page so I can see where visitors are coming from... the one I have only does in the last 24 hours and that's no fun!!

Where are you?

A little more Drama!

After a little break from posting, I'm back with a vengeance! and ready to discuss many of our favourite cultural icons!

Let's begin with television teenage drama....

I can't believe I haven't written about 1. Gossip Girl and 2. 90210 this season!

Have you seen Gossip Girl? Without ruining anything for those who are not caught up-- omfg. the bus scene. Hot, or what? and I think the outfits are just getting better and better! I must admit I am a little jealous of their couture clothing!!!

90210. A little less drama filled than I was hoping for-- cheating dad (with mum's that don't care), nice cars, big houses, cool kids friends with the geek... what is this The O.C? Or is it 90210 imitating The O.C. that was imitating 90210, Beverly Hills (the original) or is it... eeek, my head in spinning! I kid, I kid. I still love it! Are you feeling the show? I have a feeling it might be dunzo after a year unless something changes, but for now, I'll keep watching!

If you haven't seen the preview, check it out here

Did you look like that at 15? haha

Woah... it's been a while!

Tuesday, September 2, 2008

The days are spent in the coffee shop, reading or shopping. It's great life!

My aunt owns a great little coffee shop in downtown Hopkinsville, Kentucky called Coffee And...
If you are ever in the area, go check it out!

I will post to Fashion Finds my great deals of the week!

More updates to come...

Yay for Macbooks!

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

I may be $1700 poorer, but I am one Macbook richer and I'm super excited about it. I honestly am afraid to move it from it's current location of the dining room table for fear it might get anything on it! Wow, I'm a nerd! haha I'm thinking about one of those thin plastic covers that you can put designs on. Over at Unique Design you can add your own pictures or use theirs. Anyone that knows me, will probably guess I want to leopard print one!

Do you have a cover on yours? Any suggestions??

Remember Myspace? I still really like it for many reasons. It's a lot different than Facebook which is way too personal--you need to know people to add them (or else it's 'creepy') and it requires way too much information. Myspace is all about adding random people, looking for new music, reading up on people's latest projects...

I think my favourite part is the blogs. Many celebrities use them to update the masses:

Since I just saw him-- Jack Johnson ... any chance to listen to him sing is good enough for me. Plus he has links to all the other artists on Brushfire Records!

Check out DJ AM ...he posts new music all the time!

Even Tom Hanks has one (which you can check here) where he enlightening you on his summer readings...

Chances are your favorite artist, actor, activists, political etc. has one! So in the height of Facebook, don't forgot about the wonders of Myspace.

Good Reason...

Friday, August 8, 2008

I've been neglecting posts for the last few days due to a death in the family. The funeral is on Monday and I will be taking this weekend to prepare for the funeral.

Promise more next week!

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

If you read this a while ago, you probably saw my post about the Journal Club. If not, the Nephrology Journal Club is a great excuse to go to fancy restaurants (all different ones around thec city) and eat copious amounts of food that someone making as little pay as I do, can not afford (and you listen to a few talks-- minor details). Delicious, amazing, FREE food. SOLD.

Tonight's dinner was at Crave an "upscale, urban dining environment" in the North part of town. The picture above is where we were seated for the night. There were about 40 of us there and we listened to a talk about Phosphate binders & calcium (yeah, I was a little lost on this topic, too!) and then enjoyed the meal. I had crab cakes, a fish dinner and chocolate brownie with chocolate and peanut butter gelato along with one OJ, one coke, one Shirley Temple and one water. I estimate my meal was about $70 all in all. Insane, but sooo worth it (as long as I wasn't paying!)

The conversation with a few of the med students totally made the night. Unlike everyone else, we were more than happy to talk about the most random of things and spent the entire night laughing! Free food with fun people--- When's the next one??

Sleep Through the Static

Monday, August 4, 2008

I think I am in heaven!!!! I am about 90% recovered from the Jack Johnson show (we didn't leave the venue until about 1:30am, and hit Pickering at 4:30am... totally worth it all-- but I am still so tired as my sleep count is about at 4 hours today)

Anyway, the show was amazing! We arrive just before 4 at Burl's Creek (the venue) and got into a huge convoy of cars heading to the parking lot. Within 30 mins we were parked and ready to get in. After weaving though the lines, we got in and set up camp. Literally. We had towels and blankets and were ready to sit in the hot sun for a few hours as we waited for the show to start. After a few bathroom breaks, re-filling water bottles, a little walking around and a lot of sitting in the sun, the first of 3 opening guys came on. Jack (as everyone called him) had three opening guys that were pretty good (they started at 6 and went to just before 9 with not too much wait time in between). It was 9pm before I even realized and to be honest, I can't even remember which song he opened with. All I can remember thinking is "OMFG, I am seeing JACK JOHNSON LIVE".Amazing. The crowd was loving it and he was loving us back. He played some oldies and lots of new songs off his latest album Sleep Through the Static. I made sure to get a bit of Sitting, Waiting, Wishing on video along with Banana Pancakes (one of my favourite songs of his-- and also my cell phone ring!) and a couple others that are escaping my mind right now! Lots of songs (nearly 2 hours) countless pictures and several videos later, Jack was done and we were herded (like sheep) back to the car. This part from the time the show ended took from about 11-2:00am. Try getting thousands of people out of ONE exit. FUN! We cranked the radio and belted songs to the cars around us with songs by Elton John and basically anything else that came on. I think only one guy really liked it, but whatever, they should be chill. THEY JUST CAME FROM SEEING JACK JOHNSON! We narrowly escaped a verbal fight (thanks Anna) and witnessed a great "it's 1:00am we we're still stuck in the same spot we've been in since 11am" verbal argument. It was great.

All and all an amazing show. I totally missed N not being there, but if Jack comes back to Toronto and I'm around-- we'll go, and I'll hold on to the ticket. :)

Sitting, Waiting, Wishing

Friday, August 1, 2008

I am literally sitting, waiting and wishing because this SUNDAY is Jack Johnson at Burl's Creek in Oro, Ontario! (Yeah, no one has ever heard of Oro, but I assure you it is a real place!) .. It's going to be great! *fingers crossed for good weather!* I'll let you know how it goes on Monday!
Are you seeing any bands this summer?

Pineapple Express

This looks like such a funny movie! Aug 6th, can't wait... Anyone want to go?

If you see if for no other reason-- James Franco is in it! mmm :)

Also, I'm loving the MIA song

I Forgot!

Thursday, July 31, 2008

I meant to post more today, but I forgot I had plans to go out tonight for drinks after work at a patio downtown! (the pic is actually the patio IN MARCH, I can't find a picture of the patio now anywhere!! -- there is no snow, I promise!) ahhh.. I do love the summer! -- Promise more fun things tomorrow :)

I will leave you with Van Morrison:

How can you not love him?

These are a few of my favourite things...

Wednesday, July 30, 2008

I think I need to make a new section dedicated to my favourite shows! I have a "top 10" list that is a mile long, and I always want to share my latest finds with the world. That will have to come later though, because I had a conversation at work today about all these shows from the past and I need to share them as well!

Remember TGIF on ABC? Or the Saturday Morning shows?

Teen Angel, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, One World, Sister, Sister, Brotherly Love (As Joey would say, WOAH!) , Two of a Kind.. the list goes on... I loved those shows!

Apparently if you have a twin, you too, can have your own TV show!:

How can you forget this theme song?

YEARS of acting and they still can't! Go figure...

What were your favourite shows at a kid??

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Tuesday, July 29, 2008

Not enough people know about this show and I’m afraid it’s going to have Arrested Development syndrome (you know, it’s gets HUGE once it’s cancelled!) I don’t want to talk it up too much, but it’s hilarious. It’s not that easy to find online and it’s nearly impossible to find on TV in Canada (try Showcase) but if you can find it—watch it! The DVD's are readily available at most DVD stores for about $20 (and that's 2 seasons)

Check out the vid below!

Your Summer Jam-- Part 2

Let's go to sleep in Paris,
And wake up in Tokyo.
Have a dream in New Orleans,
Fall in love in Chicago

Lupe Fiasco is great! I love him, do you?

As you can probably imagine, I spend hours searching for shoes. The have to look good, feel right and be in my sorta kinda price range... it takes me ages to find ones that I love! I generally work like this is all aspects of my life. It takes me a long time to pick clothes for the day, find jobs that I find interesting, even pick a restaurant! But sometimes, you just stumble upon something that's so good, you can't help but instantly like it. That's called an instant, and it happened to me while watching OLN!

My latest instant is an amazing TV show on OLN. It's called Departures and it follows two hilarious Canadian boys, Scott and Justin, and their camera man, Andre (you can't forget about him!) on their year long adventure around the world. They stop in places like Japan, New Zealand & the Ascension Island where they take in the nature, surrounds and culture that each places has to offer. They also do lots of wild things, as you can imagine 20- something boys would do! (You'll have to watch to see those) There are many memorable moments from the New Zealand leg of the adventure-- Christmas in the mountains (SNOW!), skydiving (the views were unreal to see on the TV!) (see the picture above... I borrowed it from the facebook group, aptly named Departures ). The Ascension islands had them hurling themselves down the side of mountains and throwing paint on a rock (I guess they are never going back?!). Japan had them filing the gas car with diesel ("did you smell it?"). Their other stops in Jordan, India, Canada, Thailand, Cambodia and the Cook Islands showed the viewers how different our very small world is.

This show comes highly recommend, so watch it if you are able to get OLN (Tivo it, tape it-- do people still use tapes?). Like a good pair of shoes, a good TV show is hard to come by! So what are you waiting for? GO WATCH Departures!

Just Because...

Sunday, July 27, 2008

I was watching Clueless (duh) and they made reference to "Marky Mark and his pants dropping"... So, here's Marky Mark in all of his pants dropping glory. Enjoy.

Filed under "Just Because..." because I don't need a reason to post this :)

The Shirt Dress

Tuesday, July 15, 2008

Tonight I am attending a "business casual" Journal Club at a local restaurant for work. I haven't had the opportunity to attend one of these yet, but it involves a delicious dinner and talks (and I could use some more information about the renal function!) I am using this as an opportunity to debut my shirt dress! It's super a super cute browny-green with a gorgeous belt I picked up on major sale last year at Club Monaco!

Eeek, more on how that goes. I have to be there in 30 mins!

Yours in a delicious (free) dinner,

* note, the image is sorta, kinda, but not really like the dress I wore. But it IS a shirt dress and until I get one of mine.. it's going to have to stay :)

Who knew shoes could be so difficult!

Monday, July 7, 2008

I spent Sunday on the search for the perfect pair of shoes that would go with everything I own. Glorious beige-y tan heels (similar to the ones above) that I could wear with all colours or neutrals without taking attention away from the outfit. You know what I found? One (ONE!) pair of GORGEOUS heels that were like 3 inches high. Everything I was looking for in a shoes, except for the fact they made me super tall, and I'm not sure I could spend over 8 hours a day standing in them without toppling over. Other than those, I found nothing. Not a single other pair that I liked. I would usually say, "can you believe that?" but in this case. I can! I am sooo picky about shoes... but I can't help it!

Now here's my question for you: have you found my work approporiate (closed toe) beige heels??

* For anyone who has $700+ just laying around and wants to buy me a gift.. may I suggest these:

A girl can wish... :)

Summertime, and the livin' is easy...

Sunday, June 29, 2008

It's officially summer! I am not one for the hot, hot heat, but I do love summer clothes and all things brightly coloured. I am actually a hippie (minus the dirty; I shower like 2 times a day haha) and love the hippie style! So, all this summer talk brings me to summer styles and more importantly, the Maxi Dress! Hate the name, love the look!

In February (yes, middle of the winter) I bought a Maxi Dress... It's from an African Collection (I think it was called that anyway, they were all over the leopard, zebra, etc prints for a short time) and I loved it. It wasn't until recently that I began to like long dresses. I was nearly anti-long dress because, done wrong, the can be horrendous. Pair it with the wrong shoes and ... well, lets not even go there. Anyway, after about 3 weeks of non-stop rain in this city, I am very excited for Tuesday because A) it's a LONG weekend! (sort of, I have to go to work on Monday) and B) I get to wear my dress!! YAY!

I am excited for dress season. I am excited for the beach. I am excited for the Summer!

Ok, must go, making cookies!!
Yours in gladiator sandals (oh yes, it IS summer),

What are we without our friends?

Monday, June 23, 2008

I have been home now for about 2 months now. Not that I'm counting or anything, but the time keeps going by and I've realized that there are a vast number of people I have yet to make the effort to see. I always say there is no one here to hang out with, but there is-- they are around, but I don't seem to be. It's very strange and it's something I'm going to make a huge effort to change.

I spent the last 4 years basically attached to some of the most wonderful people I have ever met at school. I met the majority of them during the first few days to the first few months and we have been friends ever since. I can't even imagine how my university experience would have been without them. All of them; in their different groups and their different places. People came and people went, but the core stayed friends and that couldn't have made me happier.
I think about this as I sit on my bed typing. I admittedly wanted to be done school. There were so many times where I was "done" with the city I was living in and the fact there didn't seem to be an escape dove me insane, at times. Now that I'm actually done. I'm happy to move on, but sad to leave the people... I'm a little sad to leave the city (but don't tell anyone that!)

So, I now begin the count down to Australia. 5 1/2 months. It seems so far away, but if the last 4 years means anything, it will fly by. I'm looking forward to it. New places, new faces, the beach (!!!!), and I am actually excited to go back to school. I'm sort of lost without it and I'm not sure this whole "working" thing is really for me... I just have to make it to December and I'm made in the hot Australian sun. Oh la la. I've been looking into Master's programs over there too... I might be in school forever at this rate!

I get to get a new place, find new restraunts (I wonder if there will be a good Southern style place for me?), new pubs, new bars, new people... it's a very exciting. In the mean time I have to shell out thousands to my Uni of choice, so that means lots of 40 hours weeks and not much time off-- but thats ok!! I'm far too excited!

Ok, keeping with shoes and clothes, I bought the cutest shoes the other day "shelley London" shoes, $10 a pair on HUGE sale, so naturally I bought 4. I have no place for them and my poor suitcase is not going to be able to handle all of it... but I couldn't pass them up. As for money, I need to lose my debit/ credit cards so as to not buy anything else. I don't need anything (except that MacBook that I'm going to buy....) hahaha opps. Oh well! Must start saving... I use to be so good at it!!

I must get going,
Yours in many many shoes,

The Best 4 Years...

Thursday, June 5, 2008

Yesterday I officially graduated from (as a fellow blogger/ friend would say) Hippie U! The years had their ups and down but as a whole, they were the best years of my life. Amazing Friends. Amazing Campus. A town that eventually grows on you... I really couldn't have asked for anything more.

On to yesterday... Commencement at Hippie U is outside. Now everyone says "what? outside" but if you have seen my campus, you wouldn't want it anywhere else! It's truly picture-esque! When we arrived (after a good breaky at Timmy's) it was sort of over cast and pretty gross. I got my green gown and proceeded to be lined up with all the other grads. After organizing us, and reorganizing us we finally made our way to the Podium where the ceremony was taking place.

I waited the hours and a half in the rain (and boy did it rain!) to hear my name and it was wonderful. I watched my dad (aka. Bruce Willis) make his way to the front and get pictures of me with Roberta Bondar (first Canadian Women in Space!). It was a great feeling to be up there, far more strange than I thought.

2 hours in total passed and I am now an official Alum of Hippie U! yay!

Both of my parents went with my to this wonderful restaurant for lunch... so delicious. Ptown has some of the most wonderful food! Anyway, after that my dad needed to get back home so my mum and I drove back to campus because I wanted to see if I could see D.I (my old housemate) cross the stage! I got there just in time-- took some picture and went back into town!

Flash forward 4 hours and me, my mum, JB and her mum went to this tavern that we basically spent all of our time at. We walked in and John, the owner had been at commencement taking photos of us and then he printed them all and put them on the wall in the bar! It was so incredibly sweet! We met up with some friends and friends of friends (some things never change) and then went and got our second degree. We officially graduated from Piggy University. I'm thinking that one might be framed first :)

After that we went to this new restaurant in Ptown that me, DI and co. had planned on going during the school year but for some reason it never happened. We walked in and who was sitting there? I'm sure you could hear the squeal from where you are! I haven't seen him since we left last month and it was such a great (random) surprise! Dinner was delicious and we then (at 9am) had to make the 4 hours drive home. It was sad to say good-bye as JB lives in Africa, so it's not as easy to meet us as say, all my TO friends! It was heaps of fun and great to see everyone!

Tomorrow I head to TO for 2 Graduation parties with the C.C Family (official family of Hippie U)... should be amazing! Will update you on that come next week!--- sooo very excited!

and OH, how could I not mention this, I bought the CUTEST dress, and got a cute pink top for work! Love them!!

Yours in shoes, clothes and other pretty things,

Time Flies...

Tuesday, May 27, 2008

They say time flies when you're having fun-- who knew it would fly when you're also doing nothing! The past 3 weeks have been pretty dull... back to 8-4 work! Ugh! It's not bad but I'm now going to the gym for 6AM! I haven't seen the '5' on my clock in a long time, but it feels good to be up and working out again! The $50 a month is pretty motivating to go too! The only problem is that I'm in bed at 10pm!!!

Ok, On to the fun stuff:

My boring life if getting UNBORING!

This weekend I'm off to the ol' Uni town for J's birthday party and the Sex and the City premiere and the pre/ after

Should be loads of fun!

Then NEXT Wednesday I'm off to Graduate back in Ptown and then that weekend I'm going to the GTA for two Grad parties with my amazing school friends!

I really need to get a cute grad dress, but I think I might be looking at wearing a dress I already own-- how boring! What should I wear???

A crazy little thing called work...

Tuesday, May 6, 2008

On Monday I officially started my job as a Research Assistant at the Hospital. It's a drug study on the effects of a certain drug on kidneys... pretty cool! It's only a contract that goes until the beginning of September, but it's good, it's a job and I am making money. I did, however, in the process of getting/ starting this job forget how hard it was to wake at 6am when I'm still going to bed far later than I really should be! eek! Oh well, I must turn back into my nerdy self and start going to bed early (and reading loads of books!)

Unfortunately, I decided to write this at 10pm which is late (wow, I am old!!!) and I must get to sleep within the next 2 hours... but I wanted to let the world know I'm still here and will write soon.
Have hilarious/ awkward stories from the weekend past which I feel I must share!

Until then,

Tuesday, April 29, 2008

I am officially out of my University city/ home for 4 years. I spent a week packing/ getting rid of the majority of my life and on Saturday night at midnight/ Sunday morning I packed it all into my dad's truck and said goodbye to some of my best friends.

In December I sent an e-mail to my core group of Friends... the "Family" as we have called ourselves... about making scrapbooks. As creative as I am, I am generally unmotivated when it comes to making pages for myself so the e-mail asked everyone if they a)wanted to make one or b) would make pages for those that did. I waited and heard back from 2 of them.

Flash forward several months and the scrapbooks are now complete. I guess everyone jumped on board and were totally excited to see what each other would write. None of the guys made them, but they all wrote pages for the one that did! It looks so great and I'm going to miss them all so much.

I've moved so many times but this time was by far the hardest. I am so grateful for the Internet!

Anyway, that is sad so on to some exciting stuff:

I am going (I think on Friday) shopping in Toronto for some work clothes... somehow over the year my nice clothes become casual clothes and are no longer appropriate for work. I guess this is good because it means a few new things for the office! I scored a sweet summer job as a research assistant (yes, I have a degree in English Lit and Cultural Studies and am now working in the medical field...) and I'm very very excited for it!

I am starting to write a book.. I've got some characters, plot and such--- will keep you updated as I write more! I hope to one day be on some one's summer read list!!

I must cut this short to get to sleep but I will post soon.

The Final Freezerfest...

Monday, April 21, 2008

3 years ago me and my housemates decided that we would throw a dinner party to rid ourselves of all the food left in our freezer. We were in second year then and we were still unsure how to shop for ourselves (they don't teach that in University!). We sent out e-vites and Freezer-fest began!

The first year consisted of disgusting food that no one wanted-- cans of veggies, KD, various meat products etc. It was disgusting! but we hold dinner for the company and not necessarily the food!

The second time we had it, it was still on the verge of disgusting, but getting better. We were all getting older (and perhaps slightly more wise with our food purchasing selection)...

The third (and perhaps final) Freezer Fest was like a gourmet meal. I guess when people ask me what I learned in University, I can say "how to make delicious food out of junk in the freezer". This years food consisted of shish kabobs, pizza, Spanish rice with veggies, doughnuts, and (because we still need to be a little gross) beans and wieners!

It was a great way to end off the Family dinner we have been having since the first freezerfest at 354!

As of yesterday I was officially done my undergrad! Now I've got about 8 months to kills before my next Uni starts.. what to do...

I came home from a long day of walking all over town yesterday to find a very awesome surprise on There it was...a photo of the large elephant, me, my friend KP and my little sister M&M featured on the side of the website... call me nerdy, but that was pretty cool.

I found out today that KP had e-mailed it in and Perez had picked it to feature in the "Canada hearts Perez" side bar! Cool, non?

Anyway, I screen captured it-- why not?

Ok, today was a short post but I must study for my one, only and final exam!!!

Yours in gossip,

So now that I'm nearly done...

Friday, April 11, 2008

Today was the day! I have officially handed in my final paper of my undergrad... this means that I am done (except for one exam on the 19th)... yikes! I got up at 5am to edit (probably not the best idea considering I went to sleep at 1am) and was done by 7:30am. Printed it and hopped on the bus with D and M at 8:30 (ok, we ran for the bus in the rain.. but we made it and 'hopped' sounds much more graceful than dashing around people and jumping over puddles!) by 9:20 I was back home in my bed watching mindless television-- because I can!!!

...But now I have no idea what to with myself

I have about a week off and I definitely will not be studying for all that time. Unfortunately, attempting to write my last exam ever is not going to prove to be easy when all I can think about is being done! I must get out of this mind frame! Anyway, now I have loads of time to do thing... I just need to figure out what to do!

Today I tired on a bunch of my clothes to see which ones A. I still like B. still fit and unfortunately they all still fit and I like them all. I think this might be a little more difficult than I had imagined. I might attempt to limit myself to 2 bags, but chances of that happening are pretty slim! I have also found that my shoes are going to take up a LOT of room. So far I have one suitcase filled with them, and about ___ pairs (I don't think I can actually tell you how many I have) scattered around my room! eeek... I hope there is room in my closet at home!

I spent the rest of today hanging out with my friend K. We basically hung around watching TV and ate dinner with D and MD (two of the housemates) ... not a bad afternoon. AND I successfully got ALL of my laundry done-- quite an accomplishment, let me tell you!

I think I am also going to take this opportunity to pick up my girly-shopaholic-like books again. I need a break from the crazy books I had been reading for school. A girl can only handle so many books about Drugs and Alcohol in British Literature!! I think it's time for another Bridget Jones' read! Do you have any good book suggestions???

Oh, I must say I am extremely excited for the 3rd annual FREEZER-FEST which is being held on April 20th this year and will commemorate all of the left behind food in our freezers. We will also take the opportunity to cook all of that food and share it with many of our best friends here. I anticipate this event each year and each year the food gets better and better! mmm...

On that lovely note I must go clean up (shh.. don't tell anyone I actually know how to clean up!)

An eventful day!

Saturday, April 5, 2008

So the day started with a very VERY chilly Dionysus (a beer garden with live music on campus) which was great... It rained most of it (the weather opts to be nice for one of our two Beer Garden days each year and we had the nice one in the fall, so I suspected it would be crappy!) but that just meant no lines to get beer... I'm not complaining! So we basically drank beer and watched live music! We all ended up waiting for our friend, the Prince Caspian to play his set and it was great-- people were singing along. I attempted to film it, but my hand it just not steady enough to hold it on one place! oh well, it was still great!!! We stayed for a while and then went home to get dressed for the night!

4 years ago I never thought last night would come, and now it passed before I knew it. I keep saying, where did the last 4 years go? and no one I ask can seem to find them either. Last night was my College graduation dinner and after serving at the last 3, I knew what to expect, but it still hit me pretty hard-- I am done, forever.

As sad as I am, it was actually a great night. My housemate M and I did a toast to the College... we opted to go for a silly speech rather than a sad one because we knew our friends would be making speeches that made us cry already! So with the help of our housemate D. we compiled our thoughts and memories from the last 4 years and put them into one 10 minute speech, complete with a skit and a bun fight! It went extremely well and people laughed (and no one cried!)-- it was perfect!

Our former head don and friend also flew in from Newfoundland to be there with us, which was a surprise (a great one!) ... it was so nice to see him again!

That night (well, directly after) we headed to the Piggy (our favourite hangout spot/ tavern in town) and had beer and played PINGO (bingo!)... then headed to the dance bar, but D. and I only ended up staying for a bit! We ended up walking our friend J. home who had to remove her heels and wear D's sneakers home... it was quite the sight!

All and all it was a great day and night... I still can't believe it's over! 4 years!!! I feel like I started Uni yesterday... and now, here I am. Wow.

Ok, classes might be over but I still have TWO essays due this week coming up... So I best be getting those done!

Yours in Champlain ,

On the good side...

There is good news all around today!

First: I found out I got into my Uni of choice in Australia! After waiting for what felt like eons, I finally got my acceptance letter! yay! I have a future! It really is exciting and one of my friends is there right now and only has good things to say about it! ahhh (sigh of relief)

Second: I bought a pair of the most glorious heels!

The best part: I got them 70% OFF! So they came to about $40! Jealous? I guess I am a bad friend because my friend and fellow shoe lover, JB, wanted them but opted out because at the time they were still $120... BUT they were just so glorious, I couldn't pass them up... especially for $40! I now need to work on getting a dress to go with them for my Graduation dinner! I think I will opt for a LBD for the event... black seems the best and most versatile!

Ok, still working on that essay I mentioned before and it really needs to be completed and edited tonight!
Yours in shoes,

There's a new store in town!!!

Sunday, March 30, 2008

I went to this amazing downtown restaurant last night that make the most amazing, mouth watering, delicious sweet potato frites you will ever find... and pulled pork (ahhh, heavenly). If you haven't had that combination of food and meat is your thing, you need to try it because it is perfect--unhealthy, but so good! Anyway, it was insanely busy last night and we had terrible service but I can't help but love it. Is that bad? AND they didn't do Earth Hour which I thought was a little weird... I turned out my lights (did you?)

Because its that time of year where there is more things due than one person could ever type, my housemate D brought me a bouncy ball. Have you played with a bouncy ball since you were 8? Me neither, but its surprisingly fun and was able temporary able to clear my mind of all my essays and such. It totally makes me think of The Great Escape (one of my favourite movies) and the "coolah"... I guess you have to see the movie to know what I'm talking about!

Oh, this new store opened downtown with some of the prettiest clothes I have seen in a long time! I think tomorrow I'm going to take a break from all this stuff I'm working on and see if I can pick up a summer dress or a top for work! eeeek... so exciting! (will keep you posted on the clothing front!)

Before I go I must say how excited I am for the last day of classes (FRIDAY!) and the subsequent beer garden with live music to follow! I'm sad I'm done working at the pub, but I'm super excited to not have to sling beer and actually drink it! yay!

On that note, I must get back to this essay.

Tasty Tasty Food...

Monday, March 24, 2008

I'm becoming a little more adventurous in my food making lately, as I have much more time to kill procrastinating all my work! Today, along with the help of my housemate M, I whipped up chili for dinner... it's the easiest recipe-- 2 cans of stewed tomatoes (the one that says 'for chili'), a can of kidney beans (drained), a can of tomato soup (this makes it a bit more creamy), beef, onions and I added some mushrooms to get a little more healthy! ... I tired it already and it is delicious! I can't wait for dinner!

Tomorrow I'm thinking of dusting off the crock pot (which hasn't seen much food lately) and making a bbq roast. I looked at a bunch of recipes and I think my best option is to carmalize onions and dump a bottle over the meat, put a bit of gingerale in(mum's trick) and let it cook while I'm at school. Apparently (according to a bunch of recipes) the meat will be perfect! Served on buns with a summer (oh la la) spinach and strawberry salad!! mmm...

I'm hoping these meals will last me a few days because I'm tired to making so many trips to the grocery store! My poor bank account can't take it anymore... plus I have loads of stuff in the freezer, I just haven't had time (ok, that's a lie.. I've been too lazy!) to make it! Being at home for Easter and enjoying REAL food has really put me off KD (ick) and crappy food! I need energy for the last few weeks of school!

Speaking of energy... I need to get my butt to the gym STAT! I've had a membership and have not be utilizing it at all this term! With the mass amount of chocolate I've been consuming as of late-- I really should be going today!! I think tomorrow morning (bright and early--7am) I will get my self to the gym for an hour! I think it will help me feel better ("energy begets energy", right?) ... Tomorrow. 7am. Gym. See you there!

Until the next time...

The First Post

Sunday, March 23, 2008

It's been a while and I had yet to actually get into this blogging thing. Don't get me wrong, I spend a disgusting amount of time looking at OTHER people's (mainly celebrity) blogs... so I figured I would start one myself and maybe (slowly) get myself off knowing every move of every celebrity (or maybe not!). I have also determined that it is the perfect procrastination tool, and with 4 weeks left to go of my University career, what would be more enjoyable than starting a blog and not writing my 5 papers, 2 assignments and 1 presentation? I can't think of anything else either.

Since I'm so new as this game I'm not entirely sure what to post or what not to post... but I'll give it a whirl...

The Fashion (School) Aspect:

I have been looking into this amazing program at Parsons in NYC (Project Runway, anyone?) in Fashion Marketing (I've put the link below). It can be condensed into a year program and it basically goes over every aspect of Fashion Marketing (including, if I am correct, a placement). What is holding me back from applying (well, actually 2 things) are 1. I'm heading off to Australia next Feb. for teachers College and 2. I found some cost estimates and with living expenses (remember it's in NYC) and school it would be $50,000 for a YEAR! That is basically what I paid for 4 years, actually it might be more! So either I need to re-evaluate what I want to do, start saving, or marry very rich! :)

So, a part of me really wants to attend when I get back from Teacher's College... but I guess that is (what feels like) a million years away!

Feel free to contact me if you know anything about the program, or have attended, or just love fashion!

School Part 2: Australia

I just mentioned that I am off to Australia for Teacher's College in February which is pretty exciting! I've been accepted into Deakin Uni so far and am anxiously awaiting the responses from 4 other schools. Right now my top choice is Wollongong! It looks beautiful, is close to Sydney and the Uni looks like it has a great life!!

I guess there is not much more to say about that until I hear back from some more and accept my acceptance to one of the schools! (eek) School is good. I'm not sure I'm ready for real life yet!

In Other School-ish Related News:

In less than 2 weeks I have to do a speech in front of my fellow graduating class during a dinner which I am completely scared about-- yet very very excited to do it! I think I might post it once the final draft has been completed. So far it goes a little something like this: _____________________________________ ... (I guess I should start writing that!)

The "Because School is Boring, let's get back to Fashion" Part:

I hit up Forever 21 over the weekend in Toronto. To be honest, it has NOTHING on the NYC version. The Toronto store had very few sales (I picked up this divine off-white knee length coat for less than $20 last Christmas in one of the Manhattan stores) but the clothes they had were super colourful and fun! I only tried on a few things (as I had decided to take my entire life in my bag and was tired of toting it around) and I didn't end up getting any clothes but I did find this amazing (as soon as I find out how to post pictures I will put it up) necklace for $2, a turquoise cocktail ring for $6 and a super fun plastic flower ring for $5! WHAT A STEAL! They look great on, too!

H&M (I'm on a student budget, if you can't already tell) also had some GREAT clothes! There was a perfect BRIGHT yellow Spring coat with a big collar neck and black buttons that I really should have tired on... it was amazing! But with my lack of self control when it comes to pretty coats I had to back away slowly and exit the Eaton Centre... next time!

A few other (surprising) places for you to check out if you haven't already:
Joe Fresh (at the Super Store)-- Buying your clothes at the's a weird concept, I know! But I've picked up some great tee's ($8) and a sweet and pretty spring coat for $20! It's worth taking a look!

Now, it totally depends on your city, but mine has a few great stores than sell higher-end fun clothes and occasionally (like after Christmas, or during the Spring time) they have massive 50-75% off sales which I always manage to get to! It's the perfect time to pick up a pair of pants, that $80 tee's or that jacket that was $300! (Splurge a little--- how can you not when you're getting such a great deal!). My suggestion would be to ask around if you can't seem to find the sales! (Or get on a mailing list... I subscribe to one that lets me know when the entire downtown is having a side-walk sale!)

Spring is definitely my favourite time of year. Right now I'm pretty tired of the bland cold weather and everything being grey. I can't wait for the spring rain and the pretty colours which will be here before we know it!!
Until next time,

*UPDATE: I landed up in Australia, but for a Masters and not teachers college
... thank god.
